Composer, pianist and poet, born in Portugal in 1956 to a Cape Verdean father and portuguese mother,  Vasco Martins makes his home on the island of São Vincente.

Vasco Martins studied composition in Portugal (with composer Fernando Lopes Graça) and France (with composer and maestro Henri-Claude Fantapié).

Back to Cape Verde, he composed "Danças de Câncer" for symphony orchestra.

His current body of work includes of nine symphonies, pieces for string orchestra, pieces  for classical guitar and fine electronic music. His work is deeply inspired by poetic and spiritual ideas, also reflecting the natural landscapes of the desert islands of his homeland in the middle of the ocean.

His work  for guitar is presented, among others, by the guitarists: Andrew Mah, John Williams, Jan Wouters, Sérgio Figueira, John Etheridge.

Some first performances (symphonic music)

  

Symphony 4 «Buda Dharma» was premiered in in S.Paulo , Brazil (2001) , by the RTV orchestra conducted by Lutero Rodrigues and in France (2007), conducted by HC Fantapié.

 

«Danças de Câncer» has been performed in France

 

«A brisa sopra por cima das ondas» for string orchestra was premiered in February 2003 in Bobigny, Françe, where it was conducted by Henri Claude   Fantapié, and again in Australia in September 2005 directed by David Angells

 

«Dolphins on horizon» for string orchestra was premiered in May 2004 by the Sinfonia Toronto

 

Symphony 7 , «Azuleste Azulsul», was premiered on April 27, 2005, in Coimbra by the OCC, conducted by Virgilio Caseiro
