The Cape Verde Islands lie in the Atlantic Ocean, some 600 kilometers off the western most point of Africa. The ten major islands of the archipelago have a combined land area of 4000 square kilometers, separated by about 20 times that area of water; so it is entirely comprehensible that the composer Vasco Martins should have a deep understanding of ocean and all its moods.
